Veggie ready-meals, food over the phone, and a hidden gem in Surrey

Friend of Vegetarian for Life, Gill Gibbs from Surrey discusses vegetarian and vegan ready-meal options, ordering food over the phone from Sainsbury’s, and a hidden gem at Cobham Service Station.

Wiltshire Farm Foods reviewed

Recently Len, my husband, and I went on holiday self-catering to an isolated area and so we decided to take some Wiltshire Farm Food meals with us. I tasted the Squash and Butter Bean Stew and the Cauliflower and Spinach Curry. These meals suited my diet which is vegan and gluten free. I enjoyed these meals very much, very tasty and attractive on the plate. I will certainly eat them again. Len eats a vegetarian diet and he tried the Spanish Omelette, Vegetable Lasagne, and the Vegetarian Cottage Pie. He enjoyed these meals as well. He is not so keen on spicy, herby food so these suited him. Len also tried an Apple Crumble and Rhubarb Crumble. He enjoyed these but could have eaten a much bigger portion! I must say we were impressed and the delivery service was very good and helpful. A good experience.

Order food on the phone from Sainsbury’s

If you don’t have access to the internet you can order food over the telephone from Sainsbury’s on 0800 328 1700. You get a message to press 3 if you want to make an order. Because Sainsbury’s HQ is in Ireland, you will often get someone with an Irish accent. This is a problem for me as I am very hard of hearing… just to warn anyone like me!

Motorway magic

I know that there is a good selection of food at the motorway service stations. We have been eating at an outlet called Mint Leaves at the Cobham Service Station, Surrey J9/10 M25. The food is very tasty and there is a good choice of vegan gluten free dishes. I think this is a fairly new franchise and it is expanding to other areas.

THANK YOU for your useful article about ordering food by phone with the number to dial (in Ireland!) (with warnings about the accent!) This is valuable information – I will talk to them!
