Vegetarian for Life

Clap for carers

Whether you’re self-isolating at home, furloughed, a keyworker, or caring for someone, we can all agree that the last month has been a testing one, not just for the UK, but for the entire world.

The devastation of the coronavirus has been at the forefront of the news. And while bad news has travelled the world, Vegetarian for Life has been inspired by some of the selfless acts of kindness shown by communities all over the globe.

First we heard of centenarian Colonel Tom Moore who was raising money for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. Colonel Moore smashed his initial target, and at the time of writing his fundraising efforts have exceeded £31 million! For more information on Tom’s campaign, you can head to his JustGiving page here.

We’ve also felt humbled by the response to the Clap for Carers campaign that has seen thousands joining in a collective round of applause for carers, NHS staff and other essential workers on Thursdays at 8pm.

Vegetarian for Life exists to support older vegetarians and vegans, but a big part of that is working directly with UK care homes and their staff, to help ensure that vegans and vegetarians are given the best possible care.

Throughout this pandemic, we appreciate that care staff like you are still working tirelessly behind the scenes, caring for service users, and bravely putting their needs first.

In fact, we heard recently that staff at The Victoria House Care Home in Ryde, Isle of Wight have started camping on the grounds of the care home because of a ‘no one in/no one out’ rule. We certainly can’t fault their commitment to their residents and you can read more about the amazing staff at The Victoria House here.

So from all of us at Vegetarian for Life, we would like to show our gratitude to those working in care homes during this particularly challenging time.

It really is key workers like yourselves who are helping to keep the world going. From all of us at Vegetarian for Life – to the care staff that we know, and to those that we don’t – thank you for all that you are doing for the people in your care.
