See you there! VegfestUK Brighton is this weekend

Posted by Jasmine on 19/03/18 in VfL News and Events

VegfestUK Brighton kicks off this weekend! V for Life will be running the Mature Zone, famous for a number of reasons – groundbreaking talks, tonnes of information about nutrition and the needs of older vegans, and not to mention the only pay-as-you-feel refreshments at the festival!

We know that Brighton is a historical vegan hotspot, so we are expecting a fantastic crowd to descend on the Brighton Centre. Read on if you need any further convincing to come to the Mature Zone. We'll be there all weekend.

Saturday timetable

12pm: The Mature Zone launches with V for Life's Jasmine Owens running the workshop: 'I've been vegan longer than you'. Jasmine interviewed people who've been veggie/vegan for decades; some up to 70 years! Come and discuss their experiences and share your own.

1pm: Next up is David Pye, treasurer of the International Vegetarian Union, discussing 'Do animals have souls?' Hear about the pioneering work of Dr Helen Wambach, and her investigations into reincarnation.

2pm: Come along to mature veg*n speed-dating! Find love in later life, or just make a new friend.

3pm: Heather Russell, dietitian for the Vegan Society, will be discussing 'How to thrive on a vegan diet during later life'. Unsure if you're getting everything you need, or want to find out more about nutritional needs for older vegans? Ask an expert!

4pm: V for Life's Chief Executive, Amanda Woodvine, will be offering advice on 'Cooking for one: Healthy cheats to keep you motivated'. Some people, especially as they get older, might lose motivation to prepare the meals they deserve. Come and get inspired.

5pm: Snack party sponsored by Eat Real and VBites Foods Ltd. Make friends over some delicious, completely free nibbles... scroll down for more info.

Sunday timetable

11am: A positive start to your day – 'Positively vegan for life: Empower yourself and support the wider vegan community'. Get some pearls of wisdom from Amanda Woodvine, CEO of V for Life, including on how to support vegans in care home settings.

12pm: The fabulous Yvonne Bishop-Weston will be talking about 'Maintaining optimal health as our body and lifestyle changes past 50'. Crucial for anyone hitting the big five-oh, or anyone with questions about staying healthy through and beyond the menopause.

1pm: Cooking demonstration: sweet kombu and ginger tea, and seaweed & greens pesto. Artist-cum-chef Ollie Bragg, of V for Life, will present this transcendental dish.

2pm: Older vegan discussion group. What issues are facing the older vegan community today? Come and have your say – all ages welcome.

3pm: Next we have a free Yoga Taster Session with expert Emma Knight! This will be a gentle yet rewarding exercise session, suitable for all ages.

4pm: Fancy a tipple? Meet like-minded souls over a free drink. Delicious complimentary bevvies will provide a lovely close to the VegfestUK weekend.

We can't wait to meet you at the Mature Zone. It will be open all weekend, with comfy seats and a relaxed atmosphere offering an oasis in the hustle and bustle of VegfestUK.
