Cinnamon Care hosts veggie cookery class

Chefs from Cinnamon Care received a masterclass in veggie cookery last week when Vegetarian for Life (VfL) Roving Chef Justina visited a Warwickshire care home.

Justina held a session at luxury care home Oakley Grange in Heathcote, part of the Cinnamon Care Collection chain. Cinnamon Care chefs attended the event, including a chef from Oakley Grange.

Chefs were treated to an hour-long presentation, which included a discussion on the reasons behind residents' ethical choices. They also had the opportunity for a 90-minute practical hands-on kitchen session, in which they recreated Justina's recipes.

Chefs made Lancashire hot pot, roasted cauliflower salad and apricot cake.

Justina says she chose Lancashire hot pot because it is a simple and inclusive dish, with a mild carbon footprint. She adds that the recipe is fortified with ProSauce gravy powder. “Roasted cauliflower salad showcases how tahini can be incorporated into a dish to liven it up,” she says. “Using such ingredients, salads are never boring.”

Justina says apricot cake is an easy recipe to recreate, and allows chefs perfect practice on how to make a vegan cake.

After they had sampled their veggie dishes, chefs rated the session 5/5 and said that the chosen recipes were tasty.

This was a welcome return to Cinnamon Care for Justina – she last year delivered a training session for the group at the kitchen of care home supplier Bidfood in Slough.
