From Pad Thai to Apple Charlotte – carers get cooking

Posted by Alex on 08/07/26 in VfL News and Events

Trafford Carers recently welcomed back VfL chef Alex to deliver cookery classes during Carers' Week.

Alex has previously delivered three courses sets for carers in Trafford, each comprising four classes. These hands-on classes were so popular that Trafford Carers asked for a couple more.

The classes allow carers the opportunity to socialise while they learn new dishes to treat those people in their care.

Attendees made healthy, tasty and budget-friendly dishes, including pad Thai, Lancashire hotpot, mushroom and chickpea curry. They also made tasty desserts including apple Charlotte and chocolate pots.

The additional sessions for Carers' Week were a special request from the carers themselves. “It is nice to know the classes were popular,” said Alex. “It's so important that carers, and the people in their care, enjoy healthy food.”

Alex has previously held classes for Trafford Carers at St Mathews Church in Stretford, The Cafe in the Park – Stamford Park Altrincham and Hartford Community Centre in Urmston.

If you are a carer, or belong to a carer organisation, VfL has a range of resources to support healthy eating and dietary choice.
