Vegan cooking comes to Vicarage Road

VfL Roving Chef Ollie recently paid a visit to Watford FC's Vicarage Road to hold a vegan cookery demonstration.

The event was hosted by Watford FC Foundation's Golden Memories project.

The scheme is a reminiscence programme for individuals living with mild to moderate dementia. It provides a positive and supportive space where participants and their carers can relax, have fun, build friendships, and share experiences, while feeling understood, heard, and part of the golden community.

Around 20 people attended the event, at which Ollie demonstrated a Mushroom and Chickpea Curry served with Basmati Rice. He also demonstrated how to make Simple Flatbreads to accompany the meal. He followed this up with a simple Chocolate Avocado Pudding.

Ollie says, “I chose these recipes because they are simple, affordable and packed with nutrients, showing older adults that plant-based cooking can be delicious, easy to prepare, gentle to eat, and provide a balanced meal with plenty of protein, fibre and healthy fats using everyday ingredients.’’

He adds: “It was a great session with a stunning venue and plenty of happy customers.”
