Cooking, connection and support for Dunbar Dementia Carers

Posted by Claire on 26/03/26 in VfL News and Events

Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group recently received an online cookery class from VfL Chef Claire.

The session was part of an initiative to connect carers in a series of online sessions.

The theme of the hour-long session was 'budget leftovers'. Claire talked carers through how to make the most of their larders, demonstrating potato and celeriac soup and nutty apple crumble.

“Claire’s sessions have been so well received, and enjoyed by all,” said group co-founder Lorna Bunney.

“She has such a flair for delivery, and makes them so interesting and enjoyable for all, with her friendly but professional delivery.”

During the demonstrations, Claire also gave carers helpful shopping suggestions, as well as food preparation tips.

“I know that these have been especially helpful for those who are adjusting to life on their own when a loved one has been moved to a care facility or hospital, or when a bereavement occurs,” said Lorna.
