Plant-powered excellence: Our chef Alex heads to Care Chef finals

Posted by Amanda on 09/07/25 in VfL News and Events

We’re incredibly proud of our very own Roving Chef Alex Connell for securing a place in the national final of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) Care Chef of the Year competition!

Not only did Alex impress the judges in the competition's regional stages with his roasted aubergine main and pear & walnut upside-down cake dessert, he also received a Highly Commended award for his dessert.

With thoughtful feedback in hand and his usual dedication, Alex is already refining his dishes for the final. We can't wait to see what he creates next.

Congratulations to all the finalists – and especially to the Northern stars, Alex and Dawn Louise Brown from Greenholme Care Home. Roll on October!

Myself and a colleague attended many of Alex’s classes which was held at the Vegetarian Society cookery school in Altrincham. We were really surprised when we were informed that he had left the organisation as he was the best tutor by far . We never returned.

Please let me know where Alex will be teaching in 2026 as it would be lovely to attend his courses again.

Kind regards
Dr Eileen Turnbull
