Vegetarian for Life

Veganuary competition winner revealed

Posted by ellie@vegetarianforlife.org.uk on 06/02/22 in VfL News and Events

At the start of January we asked care homes to share how they were celebrating Veganuary 2022 in their homes. It was great to hear what you'd all been up to.

After much deliberation and cogitation, we chose Evolve Care Group as our runner-up. Evolve asked all their chefs to cook their favourite vegan dish and make a recipe card so that it could be made again.

Here is a vegan curry made by Thistle Court Care Home.

But there could only be one winner.

The winner of our BOSH! cookbook giveaway is...

GARDEN CITY COURT

Quantum Care

The winning home produced a three-course vegan meal for a vegan resident and invited her to dine with the catering team. They made a tasty soya curry with black lentils, potato croquettes and banana fritters.

They asked her to provide feedback on the dishes and were pleased that she thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

The catering team served the potato croquettes and banana fritters as snacks to the rest of the residents and received great feedback. Some residents described them as "divine", which they said was lovely to hear.

Vegetarian for Life has worked with Quantum Care a number of times, delivering bespoke training around vegan and vegetarian catering and vegan fortification.

Most recently, Chef Alex delivered some virtual chef training sessions with a focus around fortifying foods for vegans.

One of the chefs who attended said:

Alex was very informative and knowledgeable. Learnt some new tips and tricks too.

If you’d like further support around catering for your vegan and vegetarian residents check out Vegetarian for Life's training options here or email ellie@vegetarianforlife.org.uk for more information.

Congratulations again to all of our entries and especially to our runner-up and winner. Your cookbook will be in the post shortly.
