VfL gives online veggie cookery demonstrations

Posted by Justina on 09/09/25 in VfL News and Events

VfL Roving Chef Justina hosted two cookery demonstrations through online events organiser Rest Less.

Justina says the online format is especially important for older adults who may be worried about access issues at venues.

121 people watched the online seminars. Rest Less recorded the session, which the company afterwards made available for a limited time.

Each event had a theme. One theme was Easter in the Kitchen, in which Justina demonstrated how to cook carrot and orange soup served with hand-made flatbreads and finished with hazelnut truffles.

Justina focussed another session on those who live alone, or prefer to cook smaller portions. Recipes included: One pot butternut squash macaroni cheese; banana and peanut butter fortified milkshake; and chocolate mug cake.

For each session, Justina chose budget-friendly dishes, which used ingredients that were readily available in local supermarkets.

Justina says: “Take this chance to make recipes which you otherwise would not be brave enough to make, or one that you'd worry about the outcome. Believe me, after you make the dish once, you will want to come back and have it again.”

Rest Less describes its programme of online events as “designed to bring like-minded people together to share interests and experiences”.

One attendee said: “Simple cooking that sounded and looked delicious. I definitely fancy having a go at the soup. I felt the attention to not wasting food or electricity was excellent as it is something that we should think about.”
