Hotpot, cake and community: A tasty day in Ladybarn

Posted by Alex on 03/02/26 in VfL News and Events

Vegetarian for Life Roving Chef Alex last month gave a cookery demonstration at Ladybarn Community Hub in Manchester. The independent charity is run by, and for, the local people of Ladybarn. It was established in 2018 and currently has four staff members, six trustees, and over twenty volunteers.

Alex's demonstration was a prelude to the group's weekly lunch club, which attracts around 100 people.

At the demonstration, Alex took the opportunity to teach attendees how to make his famous Lancashire hotpot and apple cake.

“At this time of the year hotpot, and apple cake served with warm custard, just hit the spot,” Alex said.

The demonstration allowed Ladybarn Community Hub to turn a social gathering into an even bigger event. “It’s a great idea to piggyback on events and add something extra,” Alex said. “And of course, I always love to showcase great veggie recipes.”
